Donald C. Kamsler, VMD (Founder)

 

Dr. Kamsler founded the Sunbury Animal Hospital in 1952. He received his VMD degree from The University of Pennsylvania in 1950. Dr. Kamsler developed a reputation for service to both veterinary medicine and to his community. In 1998 he and his wife jointly received the Sunbury "Citizen of the Year" award from the American Legion. Dr. Kamsler passed away in 2014, he is greatly missed by the hospital staff and community. 

 

 

 

James W. Temple, DVM, Retired (Partner)

 

Dr. Temple joined Sunbury Animal Hospital in 1972. He received his DVM from Michigan State University in 1971. He became a partner in 1973. Dr. Temple is the senior veterinarian and CEO of Sunbury Animal Hospital. He enjoys traveling with his wife Kathy and listening to jazz music.

 

 

 

 

Beverly L. Shaw, DVM (Partner)

 

Dr. Shaw joined Sunbury Animal Hospital in 1996. She received her undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in Lewisburg , PA and her DVM from Purdue University in 1996. She joined Dr. Temple in partnership of Sunbury Animal Hospital in 2007. Dr. Shaw enjoys restoring her Victorian house, riding her horse and living with her cat and 2 dogs. She likes to read sci-fi/fantasy books and watch movies, anything to avoid housework!

 

 

Lenora S. Sammons, DVM

 

Dr. Sammons is a 1973 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. After Graduating she enlisted in the US Army Veterinary Corps. She is well versed in small and large animal medicine and has worked with an aray of animals from cows, primates, dogs and pocket pets. Her veterinary interests include dermatology, gastrointestinal, geriatrics and musculo-skeletal problems. She owned and ran her own animal pracitce for 31 years. She is now enjoying a part-time retirement.

Jenn M Kuhn, VMD

Dr. Kuhn is a 2021 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine.  She grew up in the local area and worked at Sunbury Animal Hospital as a Technician Assistant prior to attending Veterinary School. Dr. Kuhn practices mixed animal medicine.  Her veterinary interests include dermatology and small animal internal medicine. Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, archery and hiking with her dog Maya.  She also lives with 2 cats and 2 guinea pigs.

Catherine N Shaw, DVM
Dr. Shaw is a 2014 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She grew up on a small beef farm in central Ohio, and developed a love for animals early in life. After graduation, Dr. Katie worked in a large animal practice outside of Buffalo, New York, where she focused on dairy cattle, horses, and small ruminants prior to moving to central Pennsylvania. She joined the Sunbury Animal Hospital team in November of 2021. Her professional interests include herd health, surgery, and preventative medicine for both large and small animal patients. When not at work, Dr. Shaw enjoys hiking and kayaking with her husband, Matt, and their two dogs, Mia and Norman.

Ceara Peckham, DVM
Dr. Ceara Peckham joined the SAH team as a mixed animal vet in February 2022. After graduating from Murdoch University College of Veterinary Medicine in Perth, Western Australia, she moved back home to the northeastern United States. Dr. Peckham’s professional interests include small animal surgery, large animal reproduction, pocket pet/exotic animal medicine, and emergency medicine. When not at work, she can be found either watching true crime documentaries with her cats, Apollo and Hector, or exploring the local trails and rivers with her miniature dachshund, Atlas.

Dr. Jasmine Hoffman, DVM
Dr. Hoffman is originally from the area and graduated from Shamokin High School. She completed her bachelor's degree in animal science at Delaware University. After completing here bachelor's degree, she went on to vet school at Auburn University where she also completed her Master's of Public Health through the University of Minnesota. Here career interests include preventative medicine, soft tissue surgery, internal medicine. She is also working to become proficient in ultrasounds. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking with her 2 dogs and husband as well as traveling.
 
Dr. Jill Speek DVM
 Dr. Speek is a 2014 graduate of the University of Missouri. She grew up in the finger lakes area and developed a love for animals through her time in 4-H. After graduation, she joined a mixed animal practice in the Finger Lakes area, then as her family grew, she moved into small animal only practice. She moved to Pennsylvania around 2020, her family has a small farm near Mansfield, PA. She started with as a relief veterinarian with the Sunbury team in 2022. Her professional interests include internal medicine, senior pet health, and preventative medicine. When not at work, Dr. Speek enjoys spending time working on the farm, and spending time outdoors with her family.

Our Doctors

 

We have 8 Full-time doctors and 3 Part-time doctors. Majority of our doctors practice both small and large animal medicine; which allows us to see a wide variety of species. From dogs, to horses, to guinea pigs, and even raccoons! We see them all!!
